When I think of this statement I think about how many things have happened in my life so quickly while others have taken so long. I think about the moments of time that news intersects our lives and brings welcomed and unwelcomed information. At any given moment in any given day, we receive news of loss or news of life, both in their various forms. We hear of losses of jobs or homes or people we love. We hear of a new baby or new purchase or an advancement or promotion. Anytime is our time for good or for bad.
Time is not promised to us. We can feel so secure and yet be levelled in a snap. We can feel so low and be raised before we can blink. Life changes instantly sometimes. I have personally been wanting and feeling an urgency to redeem the time wisely. There are so many things on my heart that I want to accomplish and I continue to ask myself why not do something about it today. I constantly ask myself what can I do in this moment. What can I do right now? I am not a person to actually waste a lot of time. In fact, I have always been a doer and slowing down was not one of my best qualities! I have learned that it is not about how much I do but whether I have done what I needed to do, when I was supposed to do it, how I was supposed to do it and with or for whom. Where am I placing value? Where am I placing my value?
Time is not promised to us. We can feel so secure and yet be levelled in a snap. We can feel so low and be raised before we can blink. Life changes instantly sometimes.
Anytime is the time to slow down if you have been doing too much because you may never get another moment to rest. Anytime is the time to spend time with someone, listening or extending a hug because you may not see that person again. Anytime is the time to push yourself a little more because it just may be the time that the extension proves profitable. Anytime it the time to give a word of encouragement because it may very well be the lifesaving word in someone’s life.
Today I really reflected on choices and time as I listened to a colleague break down because of too much frustration, while I heard about another colleague who just took a leave because of stress, while hearing about a student whose mother suddenly passed away, while coming home to hear about the loss of a relative. At any moment, you won’t know when it will happen, you can be gone or someone or something you hold dear can be. Do you take too many moments for granted? Too many people for granted? God for granted?
Life lesson today for me, that I am sharing with you, is to value what needs to be valued while you have the opportunity to do so. Value each moment in life while you have a chance. I am saddened by all the losses and they are reminders that we were never promised to live forever. We are only here for a season, but for a purpose. There is a reason for every hour, minute, second, moment God gives us. Make the best use of your time.
Knowing that life can be short, I must say that anytime is the time to start living if you have let life pass you by. Anytime is the time to start something new. Anytime is the time to celebrate and enjoy. Anytime is the time to make time for yourself and your dreams. Anytime is the time to do something you have never done. Anytime is the time to believe. Anytime is the time to choose to have time on your side. Anytime is now. Now is the time.
2 Peter 3:8
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
Psalm 90:12
Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Ephesians 5:16
…making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
